Sustainable, Ethical, Award-Winning: Waiakea Water

Founded in 2012, Waiakea Water’s mission is to produce healthy, Hawaiian volcanic water with as little impact as possible, while acting in a conservationist way. Waiakea also aims to provide and access to clean water and education for people across the world. While meeting these mission objectives, Waiakea has also been nominated as the best volcanic water brand in the entire world, by the website 10 Best Water. Waiakea’s water is young water, less than thirty day from capture to bottling, derived from the ice caps of Mauna Loa volcano and is passed through volcanic rock during the filtration process. This extra step infuses the water with minerals and alkaline creating a distinct, light, crisp flavor and taste.

Waiakea Hawaiian Bottled Water is roaring up the list of the fastest growing companies in America, breaking into the top 500 of Inc. 5000 fastest growing companies list. Founder and CEO of Waiakea, Ryan Emmons, is especially proud of this growth and recognition, because the company has also been able to meet its mission statement maintaining its moral and social responsibilities to their clients and the world at large. Waiakea is also driving sustainability within their product line, by using 100% recycled plastics for their bottles. They are also developing a fully biodegradable bottle for release in the near future; this bottle will reduce the end of life impact of their product.

Waiakea has partnered with Pump Aid to provide clean drinking water and educational services in Africa. By providing clean drinking water, Waiakea is helping Africans fight off malnutrition and water borne diseases that plague their natural supplies. Another benefit of this partnership is that African women are able to pursue other activities, such as education, because their entire day is not consumed with locating and carrying water back to the village. Waiakea is also active in the Hawaiian community, sponsoring music festivals, art shows, surfing competitions, and local grassroots fundraisers.
